A.D.K. Luk: A Life of Spiritual Service and Legacy
Birth Name and Early Life of ADK Luk
Born as Alice A. Schutz in 1905 near Salem, Oregon, A.D.K. Luk grew up on a farm alongside her four siblings. From a young age, she sensed that her life would diverge from conventional paths. Embracing hard work, she found joy in tasks traditionally reserved for men and cultivated a resilience that shaped her character.
At 18, Alice left the family farm to pursue work, securing a position assisting a family while attending a women’s business school to learn office and secretarial skills. Even then, she had an inner knowing that she was destined for extensive travel, though not in the luxurious style common to the wealthy of her time.
Spiritual Awakening
Her spiritual journey began when a friend introduced her to The Magic Presence by Godfre Ray King (Mr. Ballard). The teachings profoundly resonated with her, igniting a calling to dedicate her life to spiritual work. She soon joined the Ballards, leaders of the “I AM Activity,” traveling with them from 1936 to the mid-1940s.
During this time, A.D.K. Luk meticulously documented the teachings she encountered, many of which would later form the foundation of her celebrated Law of Life books. Her dedication to simplicity and resourcefulness, living on minimal supplies, allowed her to focus on spreading the Ascended Masters’ teachings.
Pioneering Work: The Bridge to Freedom
In the 1950s, A.D.K. Luk was invited to participate in The Bridge to Freedom, a movement designed to expand and disseminate the spiritual teachings initiated by the I AM Activity. Although initially cautioned against joining new groups, she felt compelled to contribute to this initiative.
She became a pivotal figure in The Bridge to Freedom (active from 1952 to 1961), producing foundational texts such as The Law of Life: Book I, which provided accessible teachings on reincarnation, karma, the seven bodies, the seven rays, and the evolution of Cosmic Law. Her work bridged gaps for students unable to access earlier I AM materials.
Publishing the Law of Life Books
A.D.K. Luk drew extensively from her notes on the Ballards’ teachings (1936–1939) to create a series of spiritual texts. Between 1955 and 1956, she compiled these notes into what became The Law of Life: Book I and Book II. Writing frugally on the backs of used envelopes, she upheld the principle of resource conservation championed by the Ascended Masters.
Despite financial and logistical challenges, she persisted:
- The Law of Life: Book I was published on February 27, 1959.
- The Law of Life: Book II followed on April 20, 1960.
Her commitment ensured the creation of additional texts as demand grew, enriching the spiritual resources available to seekers.
Teachings and Philosophy
A.D.K. Luk’s writings encapsulate the core teachings of the Ascended Masters, including:
- Ascended Masters: Enlightened beings who have transcended reincarnation, guiding humanity toward higher consciousness and self-mastery.
- Saint Germain and the Violet Flame: Central to her work is Saint Germain, known for teaching the transformative power of the Violet Flame, a spiritual energy for purification and transmutation.
- The “I AM” Presence: A recurring theme in her teachings is aligning with one’s Divine Self, or “I AM” Presence, as a path to spiritual empowerment and enlightenment.
Later Years
After 1960, A.D.K. Luk traveled across the United States, engaging with groups devoted to the I AM Presence. She eventually settled in Oklahoma, where she authored more spiritual texts, and later relocated to southern Colorado, continuing her work until her passing.
